The latest member of the Toptica iChrome family, the iChrome FLE , is designed as a "flexible laser engine" to serve the numerous and very diverse requirements in biophotonics. Up to 7 wavelengths (between 405 and 785 nm) and two fibre outputs can be integrated into the iChrome FLE.
The fibre outputs can be configured separately, so that individual wavelengths (eg UV or IR) can be corrected separately in the application. Alternatively, a fibreswitch / splitter can be installed, allowing each wavelength to be switched separately to one of the two fibres, or to distribute the power between both fibres.
The numerous laser requirements from microscopy were decisive for this development. For example, some imaging techniques require multiple, switchable fibre outputs in addition to the large number of wavelengths, such as in confocal microscopy in combination with wide-field illumination (fibre switching).
In other applications, such as light sheet microscopy (aka SPIM), multiple light sheets are often used, which need to be illuminated with exactly the same intensity (fibre splitter). Like all iChrome laser engines , the iChrome FLE features fully automatic adjustment, which ensures consistent laser output and easy "no screwdriver" installation.
