Addressing the increasing need for reliable and accurate temperature measurement for processing and safety in fuel cell and other hydrogen powered or hydrogen utilised solutions, Variohm EuroSensor has launched a new highly durable variant of its well-proven ETP21 series temperature sensor. With a measurement range of -40 to +100 °C and a static operating pressure up to 160 bar (higher pressures on request), the new ETP21H2 sensor features a 316L stainless steel housing for extreme resistance to hydrogen embrittlement and permeation whilst high-grade electronics and a PT100 sensor element ensure measurement accuracy to greater than +/- 1.0 % at RT.
For straightforward installation the ETP21H2 has an industry standard M10 x 1 process connection and flexibility in a choice of electrical supply and output levels of 10…32 VDC for 4…20 mA, or 5 VDC for ratiometric 0.5…4.5 V output. Electrical interfacing options include 600 mm cable, Packard Metri-Pack or M12x1 round connectors. Custom interfacing and electrical options are available on request.Whilst the new IP67 protection rated sensor takes its basic design from the ETP21 series, which is widely used across demanding automotive, agricultural, construction and industrial temperature measurement tasks, the new sensor includes design and manufacturing enhancements specifically targeting hydrogen powered fuel cell applications on mobile vehicles and where other pressurised, and aggressive gas or liquid media processes are controlled. These design enhancements are borne-out with a working temperature range from -40 to +125 °C, exceptional working life and impressive shock and vibration ratings of 1000 g/11 msec. and 16 g peak/20 to 2000 Hz respectively. A low current consumption of just 7.5 mA aids mobile application whilst short-circuit and reverse voltage protection provide further security.
