Universal Power Cell for motor load control!

The innovative range of UPC high performance "Hall Effect" power sensors designed specifically for motor load control applications, is available from Vydas International.

The New "Universal" Power Cell range manufactured by Load Controls Inc (USA) has been designed specifically for precision process monitoring & control and is particularly suitable where variable frequency drives are fitted.

The product is designed to cope with the most difficult of motor load sensing tasks when other power sensors and motor load controls are unable to function reliably. The control of many process machines such as grinders, mills, mixers, rollers, pumps, compressors, conveyers etc may be improved dramatically by sensing true power instead of just current.

There are various models allowing the product to be used in a large number of industries, in fact anywhere that electric motors are used such as the food industry, pharmaceutical, chemical, gas, oil, water treatment, building industries, machine tools and many more. Applications include mixture viscosity, tool condition, optimum feed rate, pump or fan flow, beginning or end of processes, detecting obstructions & overloads or loss of load (prime).

The Universal Power Cell Series includes the original standard UPC with analogue outputs but also the UPC-FR (Fast Response) for machine tool or very fast applications as well as the UPC-E (Ethernet) which has an Ethernet Connection and an analogue output. In addition the UPC-LB is suitable for applications where large cable holes are required.

The standard UPC is particularly suited to mixer "process endpoint detection" where by measuring the power drawn by stirrer or paddle drives, the Power Cell is sensitive enough to detect minute viscosity changes on machines ranging from laboratory sizes to large production machines. Power changes may be used to indicate the start or end of a cycle, viscosity end-point or overload.

In combination with associated KWH3 energy meter and DM100 load meter, the UPC-KWH is suitable for many applications such as “Batch Mixing”, where the sensor accumulates the total power absorbed in the mixing process for consistent production batches. Examples of this are processes such as the mixing of rubber, dough and clay which all respond to energy control.

The UPC is truly "Universal and is unique, and is suitable for any 3 phase, single phase AC or DC motors. The UPC uses fast "Hall Effect" devices and does not use CT’s (current transformers) or external VT’s (voltage transformers) where power measurement errors may occur.

IS battery operated wireless sensors

The Massa Model M3 Family, marketed through Vydas,  consists of battery operated wireless level sensors that intercommunicate using ZigBee RF Modules. These sensors produce detection ranges from as close as 4 inches (100 mm) to 35 feet (11 meters). Incorporating state-of-the-art ultrasonic technology, the sensors provide precision non-contact distance measurement for liquid level or industrial process control applications.

The M3 Family of Wireless Level Sensors stand out over all other systems because of their affordability, extraordinary ease of operation and the ability to be set up without using a target. They transmit narrow beam sound pulses, process return echoes, and report the distance to the target. The M3 obtains and records range, temperature, battery voltage, sensor parameters, historical data and other information.

The package is rated for emersion and high pressure wash-down. The batteries are accessible for replacement. All of the sensors in the M3 Family are available in two versions. Standard M3 Sensors are designed for operation in typical industrial applications and the intrinsically safe M3is for use in hazardous environments.

Wireless US level

Vydas International Marketing has released the new Massa M3 and M3is Wireless Ultrasonic Level Sensors for tank level and precision distance measurement.

Manufactured by Massa Products Corporation, the M3 Zigbee enabled ultrasonic sensor design provides low cost non-contact ultrasonic distance measurement primarily for remote tank liquid level monitoring. The M3 wireless ultrasonic sensor is also available with IS Certification for Class 1 Division 1   (All Groups) Hazardous Locations.

Applications for this sensor include, liquid level control, mechanical positioning, roll diameter measurement, web loop/break monitoring, asset tracking, remote monitoring, automatic filling operation, automatic packaging, bulk level control, paper and plastic film processing and many others.

The M3 wireless ultrasonic sensors stand out because of their affordability and reliability. The sensor transmits narrow beam sound pulses, processes return echoes, and produces several outputs. The measurement output is then transmitted by low power Zigbee radio to a 'gateway' and the information is presented to the user via LAN, cellular, or web portal.

Operating on internal batteries with a typical life span of 3-5 years, the M3 family of sensors has a detection range of 4 inches foot to 30 feet. The distance measurement is transmitted via Digi International Xbee radios and gateway. The M3 sensor contains advance on board diagnostics as well as many user adjustable output settings including measurement sampling rate, radio transmission rate, averaging of multiple distance measurements as well as reporting battery voltage, temperature and other parameters.

The network also allows users to remotely program their sensors and read ranges for quick integration into their remote monitoring application. Other features of the M3 ultrasonic sensor include: chemically resistant Kynar housing with 2" NPS fitting for mounting, built-in temperature compensation, diagnostic and monitoring outputs.

Portable Power Cell for machine & process analysis

Vydas International Marketing has a new unique portable power monitor manufactured by Load Controls Inc.

The PPC-3 portable power cell, offers accurate and extremely fast (15mS) true power measurement which is ideal for machine analysis or process development, allowing process engineers the flexibility to assess the performance of individual machines and product processes.

The instrument has been designed to complement the innovative range of Power Cell transducers, which are now firmly established with process control customers who require the very best possible motor load "process end point" monitoring signal under the most difficult industrial conditions.

Using three clip on "Hall Effect" current sensors, the instrument has a wide frequency response, is not affected by poor wave shape or frequency and is suitable for use on the OUTPUT of variable frequency or inverter drives. Many other power monitors use current transformers (CT's) and can not provide accurate measurements under such conditions.

The PPC3 power monitor is mounted in a rugged easy to carry waterproof case. A bright digital true power display calibrated in Horsepower or Kilowatts is included, with peak emphasis allowing fast moving events to be monitored. Selection switches provide flexible ranges and both 0-10V and 4-20mA isolated analogue outputs allow measurements to be transferred to remote instrumentation, chart recorders, data loggers and computers.

Many industrial process machines such as grinders, mills, mixers, rollers, pumps, compressors, extruders etc may be improved by sensing power instead of just current. Applications include monitoring optimum feed rates, tool condition, mixture viscosity, pump or fan flow, obstructions or overloads.

The PPC-3 Portable Power Monitor and Power Cell transducers are particularly suited to mixer "process end point detection" where by measuring the true power drawn by stirrer or paddle drives, it is sensitive enough to detect minute viscosity changes.
