Integrated manifold for respiratory therapy devices.

The ASCO Series 588 manifold reduces manufacturer engineering and assembly time, improves energy efficiency, product lifespan and reliability of devices.

The ASCO™ Series 588 Stationary Oxygen Concentrator Manifold has been announced by Emerson. This is the healthcare industry’s first turnkey manifold solution designed to optimize respiratory therapy device designs and accelerate product speed to market. Oxygen concentrators must quickly reach patients who rely on them, so it’s critical that they are readily available and operate reliably. The Series 588 manifold is specially designed to simplify device engineering and assembly and improve device energy efficiency, lifespan and reliability.

Without an integrated manifold, manufacturers must mount valves individually into the fluidic path of oxygen concentrators and attach dedicated tubing to each orifice. Alternatively, the small, lightweight architecture of the Series 588 manifold easily integrates into the fluidic path of oxygen concentrators, significantly reducing engineering and assembly time for medical equipment manufacturers. The Series 588 features two robust general service valves that precisely control the flow of air between the compressor and the sieves. The manifold fastens easily into the fluidic path, and a barbed port design makes it simple to connect tubing.

“Oxygen concentrators are essential to the health and well-being of patients with chronic respiratory disorders, so it is critical they are readily available for therapy. However, one of the most important aspects of these devices is an intelligently designed fluidic path, and that takes time,” said Thomas Beck, product marketing manager for analytical and medical at Emerson. “With the ASCO Series 588 Manifold, our fluidic path experts have designed a low-power, robust solution that can save medical manufacturers time and lifetime costs. Manufacturers can quickly and simply install the integrated manifold by connecting just a few tubes.”

In addition to simplifying design and assembly, the Series 588 can help improve device energy efficiency and reliability while lengthening product life. The manifold’s compact footprint can enable smaller device designs without sacrificing performance. The valves’ low power demand can extend device battery life and time between charges, which can set a manufacturer’s product apart from competitor offerings. And the high reliability of the valves can lengthen the overall lifespan of the oxygen concentrator and minimize manufacturer lifetime costs.

Oil giant standardises manifolds.

Total RC, the refining and chemicals arm of French oil giant Total SA, is standardising on manifolds produced by the Instrumentation Products Division of Parker Hannifin, the global leader in motion and control technologies. The decision follows several years’ extensive temperature, pressure and corrosion testing of products from different manufacturers – Parker is the first company to have secured a 100 percent pass rate.

Under the terms of the contract, Parker will supply all the instrumentation manifolds that Total RC needs for new installations and upgrades across its entire European base of refining and petrochemical operations. Most of the company’s requirements will be for manifolds designed to connect process transmitters to ANSI Class 1500 or 600 piping, together with some for use with pressure gauges and lower rated instrumentation tubing.

The manifolds cover a diverse range of 2-, 4- and 5-valve configurations. They all either feature flanged inlets and outlets, or utilise Parker’s PTFree connect system. All of the Class 600 and 1500 manifolds that Parker will supply under this contract are NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 compliant and rated for service in sour gas (H2S) environments. All metallic components are manufactured from heat code traceable 316 stainless steel. The valves are high performance globe style bonnet designs, with externally adjustable sealing glands and Graphoil packing. Every manifold includes steam trace ports for heat tracing and all vent valves feature anti-tamper bonnets.

Modular distribution manifolds are configurable for individual applications!

A choice of three styles of modular fluid distribution manifold, backed by a factory configuration service, has been announced by the Instrumentation Products Division of Parker Hannifin.

Parker's new manifold range supports a wide range of applications, from the distribution and control of low pressure instrument air or plant air, to high pressure instrument or hydraulic applications operating at up to 6000 PSI.

Two of the distribution manifold options are based on ball valves for quick on-off actuation and control. A further option offers a needle valve manifold, to suit applications that might require lower flow rates or more precise control, or compact construction.

The first of the ball valve options, the Hi-Pro Distribution Manifold, is based on a 10 mm orifice version of Parker's Hi-Pro ball valve - which is rated for pressures up to 6000 PSI. Up to 20 of these 316 stainless steel valves can be factory-assembled to order by Parker onto the distribution manifold base. Users can also specify other build options including fitting a purge valve.

A similar style of manifold is available for lower pressure air distribution applications. This version - the Hi-Pro Air Header Manifold - provides up to 20 Hi-Pro 10 mm ball valves mounted onto on a distribution manifold body made from a two-inch 316 stainless steel pipe with either a flanged or threaded inlet at one end. The manifold is rated for pressures up to 800 PSI depending on the options specified.

Parker's third option - H Series Distribution Manifold - provides a compact manifold body that accepts a user-defined choice of five or 10 metal-seated needle valves - rated for pressures up to 6000 PSI. Users can also specify numerous build options including the addition of a single isolate valve connected to the inlet.
