Solar Light Company have now advised that the assets of Gooch and Housego (Orlando) have been acquired. The new entity will operate as Optronic Laboratories from its facility in Orlando, Florida, USA. Optronic Laboratories, Inc. will become an affiliate of Solar Light Company, Inc.

Optronic Laboratories, Inc., was founded in 1970 by two eminent researchers at NIST (originally National Bureau of Standards). The company quickly became recognized for its expertise in light measurement and commercial metrology. Today, Optronic Laboratories and its business partners provide a comprehensive line of high-performance, optical radiation measurement systems, sources, standards, and calibration services with a worldwide reputation for excellence in light sciences.

Highlighting the importance of this acquisition for its global customers, Jay Silverman, President of Solar Light Company, Inc., stated, "Since 1970, Optronic Laboratories has been improving the way the world measures light. This acquisition ensures that Optronic Laboratories can continue to provide the critical light measurement systems and the support necessary for our customers to develop and manufacture their innovative products and processes."

Relief for optics facility.

A joint statement has been issued by Gooch & Housego and Solar Light concerning their business in Orlando (FL USA).

"Following the earlier site closure notice, Gooch & Housego was approached by a number of parties interested in continuing the business. After much discussion, it accepted an offer in principle from long-term Orlando partner, Solar Light, which intends to inquire essentially all product lines and key staff members. It is the intention of Solar Light to continue operations in the Central Florida area under the Optronic Laboratories name."

The statement continues.

"While there remains many details to finalise, we though it prudent to make this announcement so our customers can plan accordingly.

"On a practical level, both parties are working in good faith to complete a transaction as quickly as possible. Any future orders for either product or service would be accepted and fulfilled by the future Optronic Laboratories entity under new ownership. In the interim, G&H will continue to offer quotations and notional delivery times contingent on a deal being finalized. Further instructions regarding future orders will be available as completion of the transaction draws nearer.

"Orders already placed and acknowledged will be completed according to commitment dates already agreed to.

"It is our aim to conclude negotiations and sign an agreement as quickly as possible for a seamless transition into more normal operations and continue the 48 year tradition of this well-respected brand."

Facility closes down.

Gooch & Housego has decided to shut down the G&H Orlando business line & facility. This closure is tentatively scheduled for September 30, 2018. G&H reserves the right to change this date to an earlier date if needed.

This facility serviced Light measurement instrumentation and calibration services.

A statment issued : "To support our customers in the best manner possible under these circumstances, we will be offering a limited period for last time orders. Last time orders for new products will be accepted until July 31, 2018, pending review of the complexity of the order. Acceptance of each order will based on part and production availability. G&H Orlando will accept RMAs/repairs/ calibration orders until July 31, 2018.

Given the circumstances, we are not able to offer the standard 1-year warranty on new orders. All sales will be final after June 22, 2018. We will continue to honor our product warranty until August 30, 2018. G&H Orlando will continue to support customer technical issues until we reach our final shutdown date or as long as possible with available resources."

Specifically, they are accredited for Spectral Irradiance and Total Spectral and Luminous Flux calibrations. This confirms the company's quality management system meets the requirements of the international standard. Prior to this accomplishment, the Orlando facility's QMS was certified to ISO 9001:2008 in 2012 through LRQA and maintains that certification in addition to the newly acquired 17025 accreditation.

The facility has earned a worldwide reputation for high quality instrumentation and unique solutions to the most difficult and complex light measurement challenges.
