Speed switch sensor testing & calibration device

4B Braime Elevator Components Ltd., has developed a new maintenance tool that makes the testing of 4B speed switch sensors quick, easy and accurate.

The SpeedMaster™ is the only device that accurately tests the calibration of speed switches and their alarm and shutdown underspeed relays.

It operates in two modes; input mode provides the user with the machine’s actual running speed, and output mode allows the user to test the speed switch at set underspeed trip points for real time verification of the monitoring system's alarm and shutdown functions.

There is no need to remove the sensor from the machine shaft or change any system connections in order to use the SpeedMaster™. Maintenance and safety personnel can now quickly, easily and accurately test 4B speed switches during recommended inspection schedules.

The new Patent Pending technology of the Speedmaster will change the way plants use underspeed monitoring systems and will make the plants safer.

Shaker level

4B Braime have launched a new type of rotary level indicator, the RLI “Shaker”. A rotary paddle switch, to detect high / low levels of bulk granular solids in bins, tanks and silos, the RLI "Shaker" can also be used to detect plug conditions in spouts, where long life and failsafe detection is required.

Utilising a unique stepper motor drive, the RLI “Shaker” rotates clockwise, then counter-clockwise and then shakes to shed any excess material build up.  If the paddle rotation is impeded at any time by the bulk material then the electronic circuit provides a signal for level indication or control.

The RLI “Shaker” uses fewer mechanical parts compared with standard rotary level indicators. No gearbox or clutch is required as the stepper motor drive is directly coupled to the output shaft and is practically indestructible and cannot be damaged by forced or backwards rotation. Also, an adjustable torque control allows one unit to cover many different densities of material, and provides easy on site calibration without having to change paddles.

The RLI Shaker is ATEX certified.

Adjustable depth bearing temp sensors

4B’s adjustable depth bearing (ADB) temperature sensors have been designed to allow the depth of the probe to be adjustable depending on the application.

The ADB series are available with three standard probe lengths of 2, 4 or 8 inches (50, 100 and 200mm), and screw directly into a bearing housing through the existing grease zerk thread. There is no need to remove the sensor for bearing lubrication since each sensor is fitted with its own grease zerk. This series have NTC type thermistors which allow for continuous temperature monitoring, and they can be connected to a PLC or to a hazard monitoring system, such as 4B’s T500 Hotbus Elite or Watchdog Elite. The ADB Series of bearing temperature sensors have been approved for use in hazardous areas according to ATEX, CSA and IECEx.

Conveyer belt alignment!

Conveyor belt alignment and rip detection switch

4B Braime Elevator Components have launched the new 4B Bulldog belt alignment and rip detection switch. This electro-mechanical system has been designed to detect dangerous misalignment of the conveyor and also detection of belt tear damage.

The switch will detect horizontal misalignment of belts when contact is made with the roller; the roller arm will be forced to pivot by the belt activating a switch at 15º to trigger an alarm, and 30º to trigger a shut down procedure of the conveyor. The sensors are usually installed in pairs on opposite sides of the belt.

A steel flexible wire is set below the running conveyor belt approx 20-30mm attached by a rare earth magnet at each end. If the belt is ripped or damaged the wire is pulled away releasing the magnet connection which in turn will activate a switch.

The Bulldog’s robust design makes it suitable for the use in heavy duty applications such as quarrying and mining. It is easy to install and doesn’t need calibrating. The Bulldog is compatible with 4B’s CBS2 belt alignment monitor and the Watchdog Elite monitoring system. It has been approved for use in hazardous areas according to ATEX.
