Ultra-Low-Flow.

The QLF Series in-line ultrasonic flow meter, introduced by Flow Technology (FTI), is for use in ultra-low-flow low viscosity liquid applications.
“The QLF’s construction, excellent accuracy, and ability to measure very low flow rates of clean, low viscosity liquid make it a great fit for a range of applications and industries,” said Matt Zajac, Flow Technology marketing manager.

The QLF meter’s high accuracy and repeatability is achieved through the unique measurement section within the meter body where flow is conditioned and Delta T measured along its axis. The meter’s principle of operation measures the time difference of an ultrasonic wave traveling with and against the flowing medium. The time difference is directly proportional to the fluid’s flow rate. Temperature is measured via an RTD embedded into the flow meter body.

The QLF in-line ultrasonic flow meter is a compact, rugged, versatile, cost-effective solution for measuring ultra-low flow in a number of industries, such as aerospace, agricultural, automotive, chemical, oil & gas, industrial, and pharmaceutical. The meter’s construction makes it the meter of choice for many high purity and corrosive fluids. Typical measurement application examples include: Small engine fuel consumption; chemical injection systems; water treatment chemical skids and sample stations for cooling towers, boilers and membrane filtration systems; aircraft fuel flow stands; diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) consumption; liquid chromatography; and side stream filtration.

The compact QLF ultrasonic meter has no moving parts, non-wetted sensors and no obstructions in the flow stream to cause in increase in pressure drop. Available for 1/8-inch piping, the meter’s flow range is 0.001 to 3.5 GPM. It is accurate to +/-0.5% of reading plus zero stability, and repeatability is +/-0.2% over 10:1 turndown. The meter handles a temperature range of 14°F to 176°F (-10°C to 80°C) and has analog, scaled frequency and Modbus RTU outputs.

Titanium-housed for US flow meters.

The Daniel™ T-200 is a titanium-housed transducer, for Emerson's gas ultrasonic flow meter product line, marking the first use of metal 3D printing to enhance the acoustic performance of ultrasonic flow meters in custody transfer applications. The T-200’s robust design provides increased reliability, uptime and safety while achieving the highest accuracy class attainable in gas measurement.

In an ultrasonic flow meter, transducers generate acoustic signals that are sent back and forth across the fluid stream. The difference in the transit times of these signals is used to determine the fluid flow velocity. Signal quality and strength are critical to measurement accuracy, which is paramount in custody transfer applications. An error of only 0.1% can equate to hundreds of thousands of euros annually in a large diameter high pressure pipeline.

“The T200’s mini-horn array could not be made without metal 3D printing technology, making it transformational to the sound quality and performance achievable through a titanium barrier,” said Kerry Groeschel, director of ultrasonic technology, Emerson. “Emerson is committed to developing innovative solutions that help our customers achieve safer, more efficient operations.”

The meter’s all-metal housing provides a barrier from corrosive hydrocarbon fluids and wet gas, thereby extending the life of transducer components and ensuring stable performance. This unique design allows the meter to be hydrotested with transducers in place, steam cleaned while in the operating line and blown down with no limits on the rate at which the meter can be depressurised.

The T-200 can also be safely extracted while the meter is under pressure without special high-pressure extraction tools, which reduces the possibility of greenhouse gas emissions during extraction. The capsule which contains the piezoelectric crystal used to produce ultrasonic sound waves is retractable as a single piece for simplicity and ease of use.

The new design is rated for a wide range of operating conditions, including pressures from 1 bar gauge (barg)/103 Kilopascal (kPa) to 255 barg/25,855 kPa and temperatures from -50 to 125 degrees Celsius.

Robust US flowmeter.

This robust ultrasonic gas flowmeter has integrated pressure and temperature sensors to provide a wide array of highly accurate measured and calculated values.

The Proline Prosonic Flow G 300/500 flowmeter has been launched by Endress+Hauser. This instrument can be supplied with either of two different transmitters: as a compact version (Proline 300), or as a remote version (Proline 500) with up to four inputs and outputs. These inputs and outputs provide flexibility with the ability to output not only flow, but also pressure, temperature, and numerous other process variables.

This flowmeter is ideal for demanding applications, measuring both dry and wet gases with high precision (±0.5%), unmatched repeatability, and high reliability—even when process and ambient conditions fluctuate significantly.

Robust industrial design makes it possible to operate the flowmeters long term without maintenance, saving time and money. The meter operates at process temperatures up to 150 °C (302 °F) and pressures up to 100 bar (1450 psi) and can be ordered with built-in pressure and temperature sensors. The input from these sensors can be combined with the measured sound velocity to calculate additional gas properties, often important for process control.

An optional “Extended Gas Analysis” function package is available for special applications and to meet process control requirements. Depending on the selected gas type (pure gases, gas mixtures, coal gas, natural gas, customer-specific gases, etc.), this function enables the calculation of additional parameters and process variables. Some examples are volume flow, corrected volume flow, mass flow, energy flow, calorific value, Wobbe index, gas type, molar mass, methane content (%), and density or viscosity.

A very high degree of robustness is realized because all wetted parts are made of stainless steel, and the flowmeter provides compliance with the stringent requirements of NACE MR0175/MR0103. The meter’s ultrasound transducers are available in titanium Grade 2.

The Prosonic Flow G measuring system has been developed in accordance with IEC 61508 (SIL), making it suitable for use in many safety-related applications. It also has Heartbeat Technology integrated into the flowmeter, like all Proline measuring devices, which enables permanent self-diagnostics with the highest diagnostic coverage, as well as a TÜV-certified and metrologically traceable device verification without process interruption.

The flowmeter transmitter includes a web server as a standard, enabling direct data from any connected device capable of hosting a web browser. The flowmeters unique data storage concept (HistoROM) ensures maximum data security before, during, and after service.

Accurate Flow Measurement for Natural Gas Custody Transfer.

Reduce installation costs by accommodating compact piping designs while providing superior measurement accuracy in custody transfer applications.

Emerson has introduced the Daniel 3418 Eight-Path Gas Ultrasonic Flow Meter, which delivers highly accurate flow measurement in natural gas custody transfer applications with reduced upstream piping requirements and without flow conditioning. The Daniel 3418 compensates for flow distortions that result from pipe bends, shorter straight runs or smaller design footprints, allowing it to operate in more design configurations without sacrificing accuracy and long-term performance.

“The addition of this new model further supports our customers with the most technologically advanced fiscal measurement ultrasonic portfolio in the marketplace, yielding the highest level of measurement confidence available,” said Lonna Dickenson, director of product marketing for Daniel ultrasonic flow meter products at Emerson.

It is the first ultrasonic flow meter to pass all perturbation tests for OIML R-137 Accuracy Class 0.5 with only five pipe diameters in front of the meter and without a flow conditioner.  It features eight interlocked direct chordal paths, positioned as two British Gas path layouts where the second is the mirror image of the first, allowing the meter to cancel out asymmetrical velocity effects. This design enables the meter to measure flow with greater resolution and accurately calculate swirl, reducing the need for flow conditioning and long upstream piping configurations.

As a part of the Daniel Gas Ultrasonic product line, the 3418 features the ability to calculate standard flow and directly integrate with temperature and pressure transmitters, gas chromatographs and flow computers while providing real-time meter and process diagnostics. The 3418 uses Emerson’s proprietary MeterLink diagnostic software with specific enhancements designed to mimic the look and feel of the original Daniel four-path gas ultrasonic meter interface.

Available in sizes DN250 to DN1050 (10 in to 42 in), the Daniel 3418 offers bidirectional flow capabilities, increased flow capacity and no incremental pressure drop, therefore reducing measurement risk and minimising operating cost.
