The world’s leading experts in emissions monitoring as well as the operators of European processes looking for the latest help and advice on regulations, standards, methods and technologies attend the International Conference and Exhibition on Emissions Monitoring - CEM 2020 . Consequently the event which will take place in Kraków (PL), 13-15th May, represents a superb opportunity for speakers to share their knowledge and experience.

The organisers of CEM 2020 are now accepting abstracts for papers that describe recent research, regulatory developments and real-world case studies. Submissions can be made via the event website

In common with past events, CEM 2020 presentations will address key monitoring themes such as the measurement of particulates and gases at low concentrations. These will include greenhouse gases, mercury and trace gases, as well the new topic of hydrogen in flue gas.

CEM 2020 participants will share the common goal of reliable regulatory compliance and speakers will cover topics such as measurement uncertainty and limits of detection.
Industrial case studies are always popular with delegates and visitors can expect to learn from the experience of speakers in sectors such as power, cement, metals, chemicals, glass, minerals and mining, waste management, incineration and many more.

Some of the presentations will be forward-looking; seeking to predict the development of regulations affecting process emissions, fugitive and diffuse emissions, and the role of fenceline monitoring. Technology has advanced rapidly in recent years and speakers will also speculate on future developments.

MES system in Polish pharma plant!

Polpharma will introduce Werum’s PAS-X Manufacturing Execution System (MES) in its production facility in Starogard Gdański (PL). The company is the largest Polish manufacturer of pharmaceuticals and ranks among the top 20 generic drug manufacturers worldwide. Polpharma manufactures a wide range of prescription drugs and pharmaceuticals for in-patient care.

Werum’s PAS-X will be implemented as full-scope MES out of the box replacing a legacy MES. It will support efficient operations in the production departments for parenteral and solid forms as well as in the R&D department. PAS-X shall be fully integrated with the Oracle ERP and WMS system and the scales on the shop floor level.

“We decided in favour of Werum’s PAS-X MES because it meets all requirements set forth by the approving authorities such as the FDA and the EU GMP guidelines,” says Artur Połom, Solid Forms Production Department, Polpharma S. Emerson Process Management will hold a series of Tank University seminars from October 16th to October 31st at eight strategic locations across Europe. Tailored to the needs and interests of operators and installers of tank blanketing systems, the Tank Blanketing seminars will help users understand how to reduce operating costs, enhance safety and comply with clean-air regulations.

The seminars will be in English and will show how users can take advantage of Emerson’s technologies to solve tank blanketing problems. Topics include instability and accuracy, nitrogen cost, environmental compliance and product quality. The interactive content includes presentations, sizing exercises, workshops and a hands-on demonstration unit.

Open forum discussions will provide a unique opportunity for participants to speak with Emerson’s tank blanketing specialists about the challenges they are facing. Emerson’s panel of experts will use their extensive product knowledge and industry experience to suggest cost-effective solutions.

The full day’s programme runs from 8.30am to 5.00pm and includes a buffet lunch.

Air gauges!

A new book 'Air Gauges: Static and Dynamic Characteristics' has been published by IFSA Publishing.

This book presents results of the researches and theoretical investigations on the air gauges performed mostly in the Division of Metrology and Measurement Systems, Poznan University of Technology, (PL): Six governmental projects were performed successfully by the research team, with twenty six patents gained. A further five patent applications were initiated, and four industrial implementations of innovative devices were made. 

Tens of the diploma works and two doctoral theses were prepared, with more than hundred publications. Some of the projects involved international cooperation, thanks to the series of CEEPUS programs.

European expansion!

AFCON Software and Electronics is expanding its operations in Europe. AFCON's subsidiary in the Czech Republic has established the Software Division to distribute their software products, especially Pulse SCADA/HMI, and to provide system integration services to its customers.

This is the first step taken by Afcon in order to place itself closer to its potential customers. The Czech company is responsible for distributing these software products to CEE countries (mainly Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia).

Mr. Rene Pelanek MSc., MBA is the appointed CEE Sales Director. Mr. Pelanek, previously the CEE Sales Director of MEDIUMSOFT, Inc., a leading European software developer of Large Emergency Dispatch Centers such as 112 or 911 ICT solutions.

Apart from the distribution of SCADA/HMI solutions, the software division also provides technical support and training expertise for AFCON's product suite, including Pulse SCADA/HMI and Dart cellular software to new and existing customers. In addition, the division offers software and application services.
