Farnell will be joined by Brainboxes on Stand Stand G06 to launch two new products when exhibiting at the National Manufacturing Supply Chain Exhibition & Conference 2023^*, RDS Simmonscourt, Dublin (IRL) from May 23rd to 24th,

Farnell will showcase market-leading products from Muticomp Pro, while Brainboxes demonstrates a wide array of products available to buy direct from Farnell. Luke Walsh, Managing Director at Brainboxes, and Eleanor Young, Category Director Industrial at Farnell, will also join an impressive line-up of speakers to offer an insight into how to ‘Improve your bottom line without costing the earth.’ In this session, held at 10.40am on Wednesday 24th May on the Main Stage, they will explain how energy consumption, carbon footprint and energy efficiency can be easily monitored through the BB-400 Industrial Edge Controller, an accessible starter kit developed by Brainboxes and available to buy from Farnell.

Customers and suppliers will have the opportunity to meet with Farnell's UK and Ireland teams including sales, technical and marketing. A free daily draw will also give visitors a chance to win vouchers worth €500, €250, and €100 that can be used at Farnell, a Kraftform Compact Screwdriving Toolkit, a Rotacraft USB Screwdriver, and a Stanley Fatmax Toolbag. "Most powerful woman" takes chair!

Premier Farnell has appointed Valerie Gooding CBE as a non-executive director and Chairman of the Board with effect from 15 June 2011.  Val will succeed Sir Peter Gershon, who retires at the Company’s Annual General Meeting on 14 June after 7 years on the Board.

Ms. Gooding brings a wealth of global experience to the Board including 10 years as CEO of BUPA (British Health Insurance company), a period during which the group more than trebled in size, delivered record profits, and achieved significant international expansion.  Prior to joining BUPA Ms. Gooding held a number of senior roles at British Airways, latterly as Director for Asia Pacific . She will continue to serve as a non-executive director on the Boards of Standard Chartered plc and the BBC, but will stand down from the Board of J Sainsbury plc at the company’s Annual General Meeting in July to give her the time to devote to the Chairmanship of Premier Farnell.  Ms. Gooding was previously a non-executive director of Compass Group plc and BAA plc.

Farnell has won the 2010 EMEA High Service Distributor of the Year award from Tektronix, the leading global manufacturer of test measurement and monitoring solutions. The award, presented at Tektronix’s annual executive partner meeting in Paris this week, recognises the outstanding progress that Farnell has achieved over the past 12 months with a 20% increase in sales performance and overall engagement, which outperformed 2009 levels.

Tektronix also noted the successful collaboration between the two companies on element14 – Farnell’s technology portal and eCommunity for electronic design engineers – and its support on new product introductions.

Farnell offers over 160 product lines from Tektronix’s comprehensive range that includes oscilloscopes (including the new MSO/DPO4000B Series), digital multimeters, frequency counter analyzers, power supplies and arbitrary function generators. Comprehensive technical data on all the products, coupled with the discussion forums provided by element14, helps potential users of Tektronix products select the optimum device for their application quickly and easily.

Farnell has been presented with the 2009 EMEA Distributor of the Year Award by Honeywell Sensing & Control. The important award recognises the high levels of sales and service performance achieved by Farnell during what was a challenging year for the electronics industry.

Alternative energy and high efficiency influence product range

Farnell has selected the alternative energy sector as its latest focus market. The emphasis in this area of high importance has seen the leading multi-channel distributor add over 1,000 new products targeted at applications in alternative energy and high efficiency product design. Suppliers include leading industry names such as Microchip, ST Microelectronics and Tyco plus niche suppliers such as Advanced Linear Devices. The new additions take Farnell’s total number of products in this sector to over 5,000.

The latest issue of the company’s informative Technology First Journal looks in detail at alternative energy through a range of topical articles and features. Additionally, the element14 technology portal and e-community will feature a dedicated discussion and information group covering the topic to provide support and information for design engineers working on new projects.

Alternative energy encompasses areas such as wind power generation, hydro power and solar energy as well as less publicised techniques such as harnessing vibration and thermal energy to produce electricity. High efficiency is crucially important in the electronic circuitry that supports alternative energy systems to ensure that a minimal amount of the power generated is wasted in the form of electrical losses.
