Test equipment for rent throughout Europe.

Specialist test & measurement equipment for data centres and RAN/Mobile applications

The European expansion of Electro Rent's strategic distribution agreement with EXFO, the communications industry’s test, monitoring and analytics experts, has been announced. This new agreement enhances the existing collaboration between EXFO and Electro Rent by adding European distribution to an already robust rental and certified pre-owned (CPO) portfolio.

"At Electro Rent, 5G and data centres are areas of strategic focus. With that in mind, this new agreement with EXFO is a tremendous win for our customers. EXFO is a wonderful partner to work with, they address the heart of these strategic markets for us, and this distribution agreement allows us to better help our customers navigate stormy financial seas." said Stijn Sallaerts, Vice President of Product Group at Electro Rent.

This new distribution agreement offers Electro Rent customers the convenience of selecting the acquisition method that best fits their requirements. Now, Electro Rent customers can acquire the EXFO equipment they need via purchase, lease, or rental. Rental, lease and pre-owned options help customers better preserve precious CapEX by providing the opportunity to gain access to needed instruments with OpEX funds.

Gavin Lessing-Caller, Senior Vice President Global Sales and Marketing at Electro Rent, said, “This new distribution agreement combines EXFO’s technical expertise and product breadth with Electro Rent’s speed, convenience, and fast shipping thanks to our two European warehouses and logistic hubs.”

“The expanded distribution agreement further strengthens the longstanding and successful collaboration with Electro Rent, and extends the reach of EXFO’s industry-leading solutions for data centre and mobile environments across the Europe regions," said Wim te Niet, Vice President EMEA at EXFO

Rental services in Nordic and Baltic regions.

Electro Rent and CN Rood are partnering in a new co-operative agreement that will offer companies in the Nordic and Baltic regions better access to rental service options and localised support for test and measurement (T&M) equipment.

“We are extremely pleased with this agreement with CN Rood, as it brings together Electro Rent’s rental expertise with the trusted name of CN Rood as a leading technical specialist in the Nordics and Baltic” states Gavin Lessing-Caller, Senior Vice President and General Manager EMEA and Technology Products at Electro Rent. “Our combined expertise will deliver even greater value and enhanced local customer support. Together, we have the right solution for every need”

With this new agreement, companies will be able to tap into all the benefits of T&M solutions that leverage the rental expertise of Electro Rent and the local market knowledge and presence of CN Rood.

The potential to hire multi-vendor T&M equipment presents an exciting proposition for both existing and new customers in the region, as the CN Rood’s CEO Benny Polleunis explains: "It’s highly positive that we can provide our customers with more possibilities. Partnering with Electro Rent increases our offerings to customers enormously with regard to options, brands and technologies.”

Advanced test and measurement equipment is essential for accurate and reliable measurements in a wide range of industries. However, purchasing this equipment can be a significant investment, so companies of all sizes are looking for ways to access the equipment they need to stay ahead of the competition without using valuable CapEx funds.

Renting test and measurement equipment has become an important alternative for those who are looking to save on costs while still utilizing the latest technology. By leveraging the benefits of rental, companies can cut the cost of adopting new equipment without committing to significant capital expenditure.

Notably, Electro Rent rather than CN Rood will process orders from Nordic and Baltic customers, for reasons that Benny Polleunis sets out: “The entire Electro Rent organisation is geared towards rental solutions, so tapping into that expertise provides benefits to customers. However, companies will of course continue to gain from the regional experience of CN Rood, accessing all the same support and knowledge that we have accumulated over many decades. That's the wonderful thing about this co-operation: using each other's strengths to create genuine competitive gain for customers.”

Where is it? Save time spent searching!

Electro Rent has launched a high-performance, easy-to-use IoT tracker, helping businesses track test and measurement assets across their field services. The new device is ideal for any company that currently finds itself spending too much time and money trying to find misplaced or stolen assets.

Part of their asset optimisation services, the tracker monitors the locations of assets and communicates back to Electro Rent’s market-leading LEO asset optimisation software (powered by Oracle Cloud). Users can see the real-time localisation of their T&M assets from anywhere in the world. The service, which uses state-of-the-art IoT technology, is available now to all Electro Rent customers, with a growing number of telecoms operators/subcontractors, power installers and industrial subcontractors among the early adopters.

Notably, integrated device communication facilitates data transmission over the phone network. Electro Rent’s IoT tracker quickly reads the location of any lost or stolen assets via three different methods, selecting the best approach based on the user’s location. The device reads the location of test and measurement assets by using: GPS satellites with 5 to 10m accuracy; the location associated with any nearby Wi-Fi HubSpot or Wi-Fi router with 5 to 20m accuracy; or the mobile phone network within 100m accuracy.

Thanks to an integral accelerometer, a trigger alarm feature on the IoT tracker allows easy monitoring following any movement events. Users can view and track asset movement trails on a map with their cloud-based LEO online account. The technology also permits users to zero-in on assets with filters by depot, category, model and date.

Aside from asset location and tracking, Electro Rent’s IoT tracker provides many additional benefits, not least the potential to optimise the valuable time of field service engineers. Furthermore, businesses can use the device to identify both in-demand and underused assets, improving utilisation or prompting investment/disposal opportunities at the right time. It can also assist in insurance claims when assets are lost.

The IoT data is accessible via their software as a service (SaaS) from anywhere in the world via the user’s cloud-based LEO online account. There is no requirement for local software installation, or for readers in depots or vans. The SaaS embeds the latest OWASP (Open Web Application Security Project) cybersecurity standards via a web browser, removing the need for internal integration or IT costs.

This ultra-portable, compact device has a dimensional envelope of just 79 x 79 x 26mm and features a rugged, IP67-rated design to withstand harsh working environments. Various power options are offered including 3xAA alkaline batteries, Li rechargeable battery offering up to four years of service between charges or Li rechargeable battery with optional solar panel for potentially unlimited battery life.

As a final point, there are no hidden costs whatsoever: the price includes hosting and global data roaming. Electro Rent’s bespoke ERP integration service with internal IT systems is available on request.

Equipment investment strategies put to the test!

Electro Rent outlines how companies can combat the impacts of the current economic challenges and mitigate risks set out in several recent reports from prominent industry commentators

In light of current economic conditions predicted by numerous recent reports, electronic test equipment specialist Electro Rent has advice for any companies looking to mitigate this financial pressure when sourcing the equipment they need. The argument in favour of test equipment rental is already compelling and growing in favour across the industry spectrum, but in uncertain economic times, there arises even more need to replace legacy-based purchasing strategies with a smarter way forward.

With economic headwinds driven by factors such as higher costs, inflation and geopolitical uncertainty, the EU’s recent forecast report outlines the potential impact on new investment: “Heightened uncertainty around the unfolding of the geopolitical situation and its impact on the demand outlook are set to weigh on companies’ investment decisions and delay the realisation of investment plans.”

A May 2022 report by Deloitte Insights already warned that “the negative effect is particularly pronounced for companies’ operating margins, which are under pressure from a higher cost base due to rising energy and commodity prices”. In June 2022, the OECD’s Economic Outlook said that growth is set to be markedly weaker than expected in almost all economies. Many of the hardest-hit countries are in Europe, which is highly exposed to current market challenges, including the impacts of the energy crisis and inflation. All of this could impact on accessing the electronic test equipment that companies require, on time and on budget.

More and more companies are therefore turning to rental test equipment as a cost-effective yet reliable means of meeting the requirements of budget-conscious, lead-time restricted projects. Renting not only provides immediate access to the latest test equipment technologies from all major brands, but it also keeps projects on track and avoids the typical risks associated with capital expenditure, such as a large hit to balance sheet liquidity, asset depreciation and slow return-on-investment. Renting also allows companies to easily ramp up and down in line with demand. Moreover, those renting can change their test equipment whenever necessary, providing the flexibility to support an ever-evolving industrial and economic landscape.

Electro Rent has extensive experience in advising customers on solutions that help them navigate different financial situations in a safe and effective way. Based on over half a century of managing test equipment investments - amid a broad spread of economic trading conditions - the company knows how to supply this equipment in a flexible manner, minimising the potential consequences of an economic downturn and keeping test schedules going without the need for capital investment.

“The key is maintaining business agility and ensuring sufficient flexibility to deal with fluctuating economic conditions,” explains George Acris, Vice President Marketing EMEA at Electro Rent. “High-end electronic test equipment is available that many are not even aware can be procured on a rental basis. For example, by using Electro Rent, customers can deploy the latest spectrum or network analyser for a high-frequency test just for the period required. No more, no less.”

Companies can achieve this ambition simply by paying as they go from their operating budget. As a point of note, it is possible to rent equipment of this type for periods as short as one week. Moreover, the equipment is available immediately, which is a huge advantage in the current climate of long lead times, avoiding any frustrating project delays that can derail product launch dates.

“Many companies in defence and electronic goods development, as well as those in telecom installation and maintenance, for example, are already using this concept effectively and saving an average of 25% on their equipment costs while being able to deploy as needed,” says Acris. “This strategy is a proven way of keeping pace with the latest test equipment technologies, retaining total flexibility to adapt and react in line with economic uncertainty.”

Evidence is building from expert commentators that economic challenges continue to lay ahead for some time to come, so now has never been a better time for companies to look again at how they procure equipment. Electro Rent has some very effective options available to help mitigate any challenges that the economy may present moving forward.
