Miniature couplings for a wide range of applications.

The smallest representative of the servo compensating couplings, the miniature couplings from Jakob, are designed to compensate for the misalignment or an axial displacement of two axes or shafts. Depending on the design, they are used in different areas such as tachometers, stepper motors, NC axes, potentiometers, robot drives, handling equipment, angle encoders or servo drives. They are available as bellows, elastomer or cross slide couplings and are attached to the shaft using a clamping ring or set screw.

Stainless steel variants and ATEX-certified versions are also available and can be used in environments with specific hygiene or explosion protection requirements.

As metal bellows couplings, the miniature couplings transmit high speeds without any play or maintenance. They are characterized by high torsional rigidity and low mass moment of inertia.

The compact elastomer miniature couplings are ideal for even larger shaft misalignments. They are pluggable, play-free and flexible, also have good vibration-damping behavior and are electrically insulating. This also characterizes the cross slide couplings, which, in addition to the short overall length, also offer a large displacement capacity and low restoring forces. Because the couplings can be plugged in, any combination of different bore diameters is possible.

In normal operation, the couplings are maintenance-free and when installed correctly, these miniature couplings have an almost unlimited service life.

The shortest delivery times are guaranteed thanks to the tried-and-tested modular system and stocks of the most common diameters.

Spacer coupling.

Outstanding smooth running combined with high torsional rigidity.

The "Simple-Flex" series from Jakob Antriebstechnik is an innovative spacer coupling that can be manufactured in lengths ranging from 0.5 m to 6 m and operates without the need for additional intermediate bearings, even over large shaft spans. Thanks to a sophisticated composite tube featuring a multi-layer, angle-specific fiber configuration, the design is remarkably simple; it accommodates axial, radial, and angular misalignments without requiring the compensating elements typically found in such couplings. Extensive simulation calculations and testing led to the development of a composite tube that combines bending flexibility with high torsional stiffness.

Its very low weight—resulting in low moments of inertia—and optimal balance quality ensure peak operating speeds and torque levels with exceptionally smooth running, all while effectively compensating for shaft misalignment. At the same time, the composite tube provides good damping characteristics, helping to reduce vibrations within the drive system. Typical applications include positioning tasks in gantry systems, fan drive units, indirect drives, spindles, and test stand setups.

Two hub types.
The "Simple-Flex" spacer coupling is available with either a rotationally symmetrical conical clamping ring or an easy-to-install split-hub design. The split hub features two radial clamping screws and offers minimal mass and moment of inertia, making it the more cost-effective option; meanwhile, the conical hub—with its high clamping forces—is particularly well-suited for high rotational speeds. Other hub designs and tube diameters are available upon request. Custom configurations are also possible, including flange hubs for flexible assembly, expanding conical hubs for integrated mounting, and positive-locking hub designs featuring keyways (tolerances P9 and JS9) or internal splines (e.g., DIN 5480).

The three available composite tube sizes are suitable for torques up to 2,900 Nm. These spacer couplings are backlash-free, maintenance-free, and corrosion-resistant, and they are designed for operating temperatures ranging from -10°C to 60°C.

Compared to conventional spacer couplings, the Simple-Flex covers a wider range of applications.

Couplings in potentially explosive atmospheres

Strict safety regulations apply to machine components wherever flammable gases, vapors, or dusts can create an explosive atmosphere. To meet these critical requirements, Jakob Antriebstechnik GmbH now offers a wide range of its proven servo couplings with official ATEX certification.

ATEX (Atmosphères Explosibles) refers to the marking required by European product directive 2014/34/EU and confirms that the components are suitable for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. The certified portfolio includes metal bellows couplings, miniature couplings, and spacer couplings; elastomer couplings and safety couplings can also be supplied.

Thanks to this certification, these backlash-free shaft couplings guarantee absolutely reliable torque transmission—even under the most demanding conditions—without excessive heat generation or sparking. The coupling specialist thus provides tailored, standards-compliant solutions for sectors such as the chemical industry, paint finishing systems, wood processing, and bulk material handling, where maximum explosion protection and system safety are top priorities.

Single compact solution.

Precision coupling hubs with internal gearing.

Bellows couplings connect two shaft ends—such as the motor and gearbox of a drive unit—and must meet stringent requirements: torsional rigidity, flexibility, ease of installation, cost-efficiency, precision, and high load-bearing capacity. Jakob Antriebstechnik’s bellows couplings with internal splines combine all these qualities into a single, compact solution.

The combination of a clamping hub and splines offers decisive advantages, particularly in gearbox applications. This shaft-hub connection is characterised by minimal imbalance and is ideally suited for high, unidirectional, alternating, or shock-like torques. During installation, the clamping hub is elastically expanded before being slid onto the motor shaft; the necessary counter-pressure is generated by unscrewing the clamping screw against the "EASY pin." The coupling can then be easily slid onto the shaft and secured using a hex key.

When assembling the motor and gearbox via the adapter flange (bell housing), the coupling hub self-centers and engages positively with the gearbox's splined shaft. This eliminates the need for complex, time-consuming tightening procedures through assembly holes in the adapter flange.

Precision-manufactured internal splines and 100% inspection ensure a highly accurate connection to the drive shaft. This allows for a more compact design and eliminates the need for additional connecting elements—a clear advantage in terms of cost-efficiency. An optional positive-drive safety feature provides added security by maintaining power transmission in the event of a bellows failure caused by overload or excessive shaft misalignment. This safety feature is indispensable, particularly in robotics, as it can prevent incidents such as a robot arm falling.

Jakob Antriebstechnik offers these couplings with all standard spline profiles in accordance with DIN 5480. They enable the transmission of torques up to 4,000 Nm with maximum shaft diameters of 102 mm. Additional nominal sizes and custom designs are available upon request.

Stainless steel shaft couplings for pharma.

Meet hygiene requirements, corrosion-resistant, easy to clean, and highly hygienic.

Stainless steel shaft couplings are used in the food, pharmaceutical, and medical technology sectors because they are corrosion-resistant, easy to clean, and hygienic. Their smooth, stainless surface prevents the accumulation of dirt and germs, meeting stringent hygiene requirements.

Jakob Antriebstechnik GmbH now offers various stainless steel couplings as standard product series: the KG-VA, KGH-VA, and MKG-VA metal bellows couplings; the WD-VA and WDB spacer coupling series; the EKM-VA elastomer coupling; and the SKVA-N and SKVA-K safety couplings (including variants).

It is particularly worth noting that both the KGH-VA metal bellows coupling and the WD-VA series feature a split-hub design that facilitates easy installation. This construction allows for simple mounting and dismounting, even in confined spaces. The fixed hub halves are simply placed onto the shaft and bolted to the loose split-hub sections. This saves time—especially with fixed shaft ends—by eliminating the need for the complex disassembly of drive or output units. Thanks to their stainless steel construction, these couplings are also ideally suited for use in the food industry.

Various series for diverse applications.
The KG-VA series is suitable for temperatures up to 350°C and is designed for shaft diameters ranging from 10 to 90 mm and torques from 30 to 1000 Nm. The KGH-VA series is wear-free and maintenance-free; it is also rated for temperatures up to 350°C and covers shaft diameters from 7 to 85 mm and torques from 10 to 1200 Nm. It is available in variable overall lengths with either 2- or 4-convolution bellows. The MKG-VA is a miniature metal bellows coupling featuring a clamping hub; available with either a two- or four-convolution bellows, it can transmit up to 15 Nm of torque and operate at temperatures up to 350°C.

A new addition to the product range is the EKM-VA elastomer coupling, capable of transmitting torques up to 500 Nm and operating at temperatures up to 90°C. It features an easy-to-install clamping hub.

The WD-VA spacer coupling is available in variable lengths of up to 3 meters and ensures backlash-free torque transmission. It is also suitable for temperatures up to 350°C and accommodates shaft diameters ranging from 7 to 85 mm, with torque capacities between 10 and 1200 Nm.

The SKVA-N and SKVA-K series safety couplings are designed for indirect drives, while the SKVA-EK and SKVA-KG series are intended for direct drives. They are suitable for use in the food processing and medical technology sectors, where exceptionally high hygiene standards are required. The non-elastomer series offer superior heat resistance, making them ideal for applications in ovens or refrigeration systems.

Quick coupling system.

For secure, leakage-free separation and connection of diaphragm seal systems.

REconnect is a new quick coupling system from Krohne, designed for the simple and safe separation and connection of diaphragm seal systems with capillaries.

The system is installed between a pressure or differential pressure transmitter and the process connection and enables maintenance, repair or verification of the transmitter without interrupting the process. REconnect enables fast, safe and leak-free disconnection of the capillary tubes without loss of filling fluid and without contamination, e.g. due to air ingress – even at pressurised measuring points.

The design is based on a two piece ball valve: when closed, both sides are hydraulically connected and locked; when opened, both sides remain pressure-tight and can be separated axially. This makes it especially suitable for applications where pressure transmitters and diaphragm seals are connected via capillary tubes. Unlike conventional hydraulic connectors, the design prevents displacement of the oil volume and ingress of air, which can otherwise cause drift and false readings.

The quick coupling system is compatible with a wide range of OPTIBAR pressure transmitters and diaphragm seals and is suitable for Ex and SIL applications. It offers clear advantages in hygienic processes in the food and beverage industry, in applications involving toxic or sensitive media in the pharmaceutical sector, and in large or complex plants in the chemical industry.

REconnect also helps to reduce installation time and staffing requirements: many tasks can be performed by a single technician, and maintenance or replacement of flange connections can be carried out without complete reinstallation or recalibration. Regular calibration intervals can be completed without interrupting the process, minimising downtime and increasing the efficiency of service and maintenance teams.

Precision meets safety.

Lightweight couplings, safety brakes and intelligent monitoring for test stand technology

Test stand technology for automotive drives is undergoing fundamental change. The rise of e-mobility is profoundly changing test routines, speed profiles and requirement landscapes. What remains unchanged: Precision, reliability and process safety are indispensable in measurement technology. mayr® power transmission presents its coordinated portfolio for test stand technology – from the lightweight coupling ROBA® DS Type 9120, through proven safety brakes, to intelligent monitoring solutions.

Shaft misalignment compensation couplings are essential components in test stands. Based on the proven ROBA® DS steel disk pack coupling, mayr® power transmission offers a weight-optimized aluminum variant with the ROBA® DS Type 9120. Compared to the steel version, the outside diameter is reduced by up to 10 mm; mass and mass moment of inertia are 40% to 60% of the steel version, depending on the design and size – with unchanged performance density.

The development has incorporated extensive knowledge gained over many years in test stand technology, where high speed ranges have previously been the norm. The ROBA® DS 9120 is therefore also suitable for speeds of up to 32,000 rpm. Thanks to its lightweight construction, low mass inertia and high performance density, the aluminum coupling offers measurable advantages. The balance between rigidity and elasticity ensures the lowest possible restoring forces on the system. A balance quality of G 2.5 at 5,000 rpm ensures the necessary smooth running and low-vibration operation – a decisive basis for high measurement accuracy across all speed ranges.

As standard, the coupling features manufacturing tolerance IT6. A nickel-plated surface, disk packs made of stainless steel and galvanized connecting screws provide comprehensive corrosion protection. Backlash-free shaft connections via shrink disk hubs or external shrink disk hubs ensure reproducible measurement results. The coupling is compatible with all common torque transducers as standard.

Thanks to the modular construction system, the ROBA® DS 9120 can be flexibly configured from a variety of connection variants and modules, from high-performance test stands in research and development to end-of-line testing.

Safety brakes for test stands: Reliable protection for people and equipment.
In addition to coupling technology, mayr® power transmission is also presenting its extensive portfolio of safety brakes for test stand applications at Automotive Testing Expo. Test stands for automotive drives frequently include vertical axes and linear movements that must be reliably secured, whether during ongoing test operation, during maintenance work or in the event of a fault.

The ROBA® guidestop® profiled rail brake, for example, acts directly on the moving masses of the vertical axes and clamps them into position in a backlash-free manner and with high rigidity. It is available in hydraulic, pneumatic and electromagnetic designs and is compatible with all common linear guides. The ROBA® linearstop piston rod brake secures linear movements on round rods. It is a safety brake based on the fail-safe principle, meaning it is closed in the de-energized state, and is designed for dynamic emergency braking. The series comprises six sizes with forces ranging from 70 to 17,000 N.

The ROBA-stop M® series also provides a robust motor brake for compact protection directly at the drive motor. As a holding brake, it clamps reliably and holds the system in position; as a dynamic brake, it brings the load to a standstill in the shortest possible time.

The brake speaks: Smart modules for intelligent monitoring.
Constant, meaningful data streams are now indispensable in modern test environments. The ROBA® brake-checker® module monitors safety brakes sensorless and simultaneously supplies them with power. By means of an advanced analysis of current and voltage, it detects the switching condition of the brake and issues a warning before the brake can no longer release under the current operating conditions. This facilitates planned maintenance and enables the user to specifically investigate critical boundary conditions such as supply voltage that is too low, incorrectly dimensioned supply lines, elevated coil temperature and an enlarged air gap.

In combination with the ROBA® gateway module, the solution becomes network-compatible: The brake data can be continuously read out via an Ethernet connection and displayed visually on a dashboard. Anomalies in the test process can be detected at an early stage, maintenance becomes plannable, and downtime can be specifically minimized. Integration into remote maintenance systems is also possible.

Coupling meets high requirements.

The metal bellows couplings series KG, from Jakob Antriebstechnik, optionally also available in stainless steel as series "KG-VA", meets high requirements. The transmission is made via torsionally rigid, two-, four- or six shaft stainless steel bellows, the couplings are available for torque ranges of 5 (MKG) - 3000 Nm (KG) as well as shaft diameters of 12 - 100 mm. It can be used at temperature ranges from -40 ° C to + 300 °C.

One side is designed as a customer-specific flange or hub for the machine-side connection, the radial clamping hub of the other side facilitates easy and fast assembly (EASY-clamp) and guarantees an absolutely play-free, secure and force-transmitting transmission of the torques, even without a keyway.

The connection between bellows and hub is made by a micro-plasma welding process. This offers constructive advantages, such as the reduced overall length. The coupling is absolutely backlash free, high concentric and has maximum torsional stiffness.

The couplings are particularly suitable for use on the input side of low-backlash worm or planetary gear units. In stainless steel, they are qualified for transport, packaging and filling plants in the food industry. But also in the metallurgical industry, the galvanic industry, the vacuum sector or the area of satellite technology equipment, stainless steel bellows couplings are preferably installed.

Metal bellows coupling clamping.

The metal bellows coupling of the KP series from Jakob, is characterized by its short design and a 4-wave bellows with two radial clamping hubs. This compact design is ideal for applications with minimal shaft spacing and limited space. The high torsional rigidity and easy assembly thanks to the clamping hub design are particularly noteworthy. The coupling also offers a low moment of inertia and good values for permissible shaft misalignments and restoring forces.

The multi-layer metal bellows made of certified stainless steel offers high torsional rigidity and compensates for axial, radial and lateral shaft misalignments. The shortened design saves weight, which leads to a lower moment of inertia.

The clamping hub is made of high-strength aluminum to keep the moment of inertia as low as possible. With the innovative Easy-Clamp system, the hubs can be pushed on easily and with sufficient clearance. A single, radially easily accessible screw per hub provides the necessary preload force for torque transmission. This simple yet reliable connection enables the couplings to be assembled quickly, even under difficult installation conditions.

The connection between bellows and hub is made using an optimal, backlash-free brass-wire press-fit method. In contrast to adhesive connections, this joining process is absolutely permanent under critical operating conditions (-40°C to +200°C, chemicals) and ensures that the torque of each individual bellows layer is safely transmitted to the hub.

The KP series is available for nominal torques from 25 to 900 Nm and covers bore diameters from 10 to 75 mm.

For the big moves

Safe and accurate transmission of torques is essential for precision drives of cross cutters. This is ensured by the use of steel bellows couplings with force-fitted shaft-hub connection.

The metal bellows couplings of the KXL series from JAKOB Antriebstechnik were designed for medium and large drives up to a maximum of 65,000 Nm. A special design feature is the three-piece design with a flexible bellows package as an intermediate piece. This removable intermediate piece, consisting of an optimised, torsionally stiff stainless steel bellows with 2 bellows shafts per side and a variable length intermediate pipe, is frictionally connected (screws ISO 4017 / 10.9) with the two hubs. This results in a considerable ease of assembly, as e.g. can be omitted in the maintenance or service case a costly disassembly of the heavy drive or driven units.

The designer has several hub variants available for the specific application. The extremely favorable moment of inertia and the rotationally symmetric design ensure good dynamic performance. The KXL couplings are particularly suitable for precise drives, such as for printing presses, cross cutters, main spindle drives, transfer axes or transmission connections. A media transport or a parallel drive train through the coupling interior is basically possible. The connection to the shafts can be done either as a conical clamping ring hub or as a flange hub.

Hub Type A:
Frictional, backlash-free conical clamping ring connection - outside – bellows package radially freely removable. For the overall length "L4", the axial lengthening of the bellows package of 4 mm is already taken into consideration during assembly.

Hub type B:
Frictional, backlash-free conical clamping ring connection - internal bellows package radial NOT freely removable.

Hub Type F / G:
Mounting flange according to ISO 9409 or customer specification - centering outside or inside. Dimensions of flange hub F and G of L13, L19 and D6, D9, D10, D11, D12 according to customer specifications.

Hub Type A / B:
Frictional, backlash-free conical clamping ring connection - outside / inside. Bellows package radially NOT freely expandable.

Stainless steel coupling.

The elastomer couplings from Jakob have been expanded by a new series. With the new EKM-VA, the tried-and-tested EKM type has a stainless steel version. One of the strengths of the material is its resistance to chemicals, such as those used for cleaning in the food industry.

Elastomer couplings are pluggable, backlash-free and flexible shaft couplings for all small and medium torques up to 2000 Nm. The connecting and compensating element is a plastic star with involute-shaped teeth and a high Shore hardness. This is inserted in a form-fitting manner with a slight preload in two high-precision hubs with claw-shaped cams.

The flexible star coupling can compensate for minor shaft misalignments, is electrically isolating and has good vibration damping properties. There are several standard variants with a backlash-free, non-positive shaft-hub connection to choose from, which ensure reliable torque transmission even without an additional feather key. The series EKM, ESM-A, EKH and EKS with expansion cone are available in the standard range, individual solutions are also possible on request.

Metal bellows coupling.

Couplings for high-speed test benches and servo applications.

Flexible couplings are the ideal choice for demanding applications in specialized high-speed test benches, torsionally rigid. The thin-walled metal bellows used not only offer high flexibility but also reliably compensate for shaft misalignments and dampen vibrations.

Jakob's KSD couplings are characterised by their six-wave bellows, which allows for particularly high mobility. The use of tapered bushings as a backlash-free shaft-hub connection makes assembly simple and precise – even with small shaft diameters. No additional key is required.

The rotationally symmetrical design of the coupling ensures excellent dynamic behavior even at very high speeds. Further technical advantages include high torsional rigidity, low restoring torque in the event of shaft misalignment, and low mass moment of inertia – properties that are particularly important in dynamically sensitive applications.

With a transmittable torque range of 10 to 4000 Nm, the KSD series covers a wide spectrum. The use of high-quality materials and the highest precision in manufacturing make KSD couplings a reliable, high-performance, and economical solution for a wide range of applications.

In addition to test benches, the couplings are particularly successfully used in servo and actuator systems – wherever dynamic performance, precision, and reliability are required.

Distance coupling.

Jakob offers another standard series and customized solutions for bridging large centre distances in addition to their Simple-Flex, WD, WDS, WDB, and WD-VA connecting shafts. The now supply the EKHZ series, based on EKH series elastomer couplings. The EKHZ series is primarily used in applications with medium operating speeds.

It covers a torque range of 20 to 1600 Nm and allows maximum speeds of 3500 rpm with a minimum length of 50 cm. It is suitable for shaft diameters of 10 to 100 mm. The maximum achievable length of the EKHZ series is generally three meters.

The EKHZ series allows for efficient vibration damping. The degree of vibration damping can be adjusted by adjusting the Shore hardness of the compensation elements. The plastic spiders used offer two advantages: even without a half-shell design, the couplings are pluggable, making them easy to install.

The plastic provides thermal and electrical insulation. Due to the properties of the material used, these couplings can only be used up to 90°C, with the permissible transmission torque decreasing with increasing temperature.

Metal bellows coupling.

Shaft coupling with short expanding cone hub.

Despite constant or increasing overall performance, modern and innovative mechanical engineering is characterized by decreasing external dimensions. This development can also be observed in the area of drive technology. The necessary connecting elements play an important role.

The KPS metal bellows coupling from JAKOB Antriebstechnik, shows what it can do. In addition to the well-known advantages of a bellows coupling (compensation of shaft misalignment, low moment of inertia, high torsional stiffness, absolutely no play, maintenance-free, temperature-insensitive all-metal design), the very short overall length of the expanding cone hub also comes into play for integrated installation. The expansion cone connects securely to an appropriately sized axial bore in the shaft.

By using an expanding cone hub on one side and a radial clamping hub on the other side, both a rotationally symmetrical, non-positive connection is maintained and assembly-friendly handling is ensured. However, the installation length within the overall system is significantly reduced. This makes it ideal for applications with small shaft distances and tight installation conditions.

The metal bellows coupling is ideal for highly dynamic drives due to its high torsional rigidity and low moments of inertia.

This coupling is suitable as a connecting element for complex drive systems, for gearbox attachments, connecting encoders as well as spindle and axis drives.
