Precision flow engineering & research centre in Europe!

Engineering design team in Romania dedicated to developing flow measurement technologies that help users gain insight and better control processes

A Technology Design Centre has been established by Emerson at its Cluj-Napoca campus in Romania to support the Micro Motion® flow and density product lines and Roxar measurement technologies.

With a focus on the development of the latest Micro Motion density and viscosity product lines, Emerson has recruited mechanical engineers from the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca and from other technology areas within the organisation. The engineers will focus on product development and enhancements that will address density and viscosity measurement challenges.

“Supporting customers locally is a key Emerson strategic initiative,” said Andy Dudiak, vice president and general manager of Emerson’s Micro Motion business unit. “Recent investments in buildings and manufacturing technologies reflect this priority and we’re delighted to now have engineering resources on-board to further support this commitment.”

The new engineers join an established group in Cluj-Napoca focused on Roxar product development. Working together provides a broad, experienced team environment that is a natural incubator for continuous improvement and technology advancements. Using a best-practice model to place engineers and testing capabilities within close proximity to manufacturing facilities, additional laboratories are under construction to support mechanical, electrical and flow testing.

The first team of engineers supporting Micro Motion product development recently joined the organisation. Emerson will be looking to recruit more engineers over the next five years to support flow and density product lines. Over time, it is expected that additional engineers will be recruited to support the full Micro Motion product portfolio.

The new building in Cluj-Napoca, Romania is part of a US$60 million investment the company is making to meet growing demand for its flow measurement products and services in Europe and other regions. The new building provides 18,800 square metres of space for manufacturing, calibration, research and development, and customer training facilities for Emerson’s Micro Motion, Rosemount® flow, and Roxar flow products. The facilities provide modern and spacious production capabilities, as well as offices for engineering and customer support services, and will fulfil the highest market demands for quality and traceable calibration.

Transitioning is currently underway for Emerson’s flow products, with full capability for all technologies expected to be in place by the end of 2014. The new facility adds to Emerson’s current European network, including the existing Flow Technology Centre in Ede in The Netherlands.
